Falls have been shown to be a significant contributor to the reduction in the Quality of Life of older adults due to the associated physical injuries, activity limitations, fear of falling, and loss of mobility. Physical injuries, such as fractures, can result in long-term hospitalization and physical deconditioning, ultimately increasing the mortality rate. Fall prevention training is a program of selected exercises specifically focused on improving muscle strength, balance, and coordination.
Research has shown performing strengthening and coordination exercises can greatly reduce the risk of falling and the associated complications.
Potential benefits include but not limited to:
• Improved muscle strength
• Improved balance, coordination and agility
• Reduced fall risk
For those who falls frequently, are cognitively impaired or taking multiple medicine, fall prevention training is considered essential to reduce fall risk, keeping you safe and independent.
At Skyline Physiotherapy, our physiotherapists offer various levels of exercises, both individually and in a class format, depending on the fall risk of the individual. We provide these services to any residential aged care facilities in need of them.
